Tracking lion experience is one of the unique experiences that are only found in Queen Elizabeth National Park, among other parks in Uganda. This involves only a limited number of people who book in advance to escort a group of researchers to the wilderness. The purpose is to study and research more about lions while on foot.

Tracking the lion experience is another way one can easily spot lions at a very close range, while on foot. The activity is done in two sessions, morning and evening. This lion tracking experience helps you to learn more about the lions and even save some that might have gotten caught in traps. The move is geared towards conservation to save lions from being poached and ensure their good health and security.

When is a Tracking Lion Experience Done?

In Queen Elizabeth National Park every early morning and afternoon at around 4 pm you can take part in a lion trekking research experience. The trekking can last for about three hours in the morning or in the afternoon. Both researchers and trackers who trek lions have radio collars attached to them, to guide them on where lions are. This is the only chance one can ever get to get so near to lions in the wild. You will learn more about the habits of the lions while on a tracking lion experience.

    How to Participate?

Booking the lion tracking experience is very challenging due to the restricted number of visitors who are supposed to escort the researchers. However, we can bridge this gap by making an early booking for you. So you will be considered for the morning or afternoon groups.

The limitation of numbers on this experiential activity is to reduce the stress experienced by lions when they see humans. In addition to lion tracking, a visitor is able to observe and watch other mammals, birds, and other wildlife species that exist within the park. This will give you total satisfaction with a wildlife experience on foot.

Visitors to Queen Elizabeth National Park always complement their visit with a gorilla trekking safari in the nearby Bwindi Forest National Park or a chimpanzee trekking expedition in Kibale National Park. Others could opt for a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile to Murchison Falls.
